You were a kind, caring and easy going man, and a great Dad to Sam and I, and to Pearl. Everything was always relaxed and no trouble with you.
When I think of my fondest memories some go back to the early days, at Atkin Ave, having indoor picnics in the lounge, being taught how to swing at the Mission Bay playground and Waiheke Day birthdays at Motuihe. I specifically remember one birthday there, I was competing in an egg and spoon race and the organiser wouldn’t let me race in the age group as he didn’t believe I was 9, he thought I was older and was trying to cheat. And I remember you yelling at him and confirming I was indeed 9 I was just tall.
I have many memories with you on the water, on Dorette, spending nights at Mansion House bay, spending weeks at The Barrier, waking up early to go fishing, and staying up late, playing music in our family band. I have fond memories of spending time at Opito Bay and going fishing on Commodore followed by music and rum. Music was a huge part of your life, and it filtered through to ours. I will cherish the moments we spent playing the uke together at Roberta ave, you teaching me songs, songs that I will continue to play.
It is very sad how you left this world that we can’t give you a proper send off (yet, I promise we will). I hope you are at peace now.
So it is time to say goodbye for now, to our tall, ocean loving, music playing, superior coffee making Dad. Love you, I’ll miss you, I’ll miss the music and I’ll miss your smile. Love Dot xxx
